Nest 25

Carol Ann Hoffman hit the jackpot today. She first called with a meandering crawl just short of the lagoon. The Middletons responded and probed 3 body pits in wind blown sand but finally had to declare it a false crawl.  Carol Ann continued her walk and called again with two crawls around the curve at the spit, near the Dolphin Watch equipment box.  Both looked promising.  Judy Morr, with Dean Morr's assistance, responded to the first one and Mike Vinson to the second. The first crawl had a definite longer out crawl and the tail drag on the in crawl was deeper.  There HAD to be a nest. There were two body pits with thrown rack between them.  Nest 25 was found below the thrown rack. The mama had indeed lost weight...there were 144 eggs in the nest. The eggs were moved to 200 yards north of the trash can on North Beach. Carol Ann said in her several years of walking, she's had false crawls before but this is her first nest.
