Nest 9

Zone 2 walkers JoAnne Lewis, Kathy Noel, and Nancy Chomel called in a crawl two houses north of the club. Jane Magioncalda and Sandy MacCoss responded and found Nest 9 with 126 eggs. Interestingly, the nest was laid directly at the bottom of the home's steps and the bottom step was actually within the nest cavity. The nest was moved back and closer to Boardwalk 6.

Nest 7 & 8

Zone 1 walkers called in the first crawl about 300 yards South of the Camp St. Christopher vehicle entrance. The walkers marked the crawl and finished checking Zone 1. Mike Vinson probed and found Nest 7, which was left in situ. Today's Zone 1 walkers were Leslie and Tony Gore and Susan and Bill Miller.

Nests 3, 4, and 5

Turtle Patrol members celebrated National Endangered Species Day today with the discovery of nests 3, 4, and 5!

Zone 3 remained popular as walkers Jane Magioncalda and Sandy MacCoss first called with a promising crawl north of Boardwalk 6. Bill Greubel responded and quickly found Nest 3. The 145 eggs were moved further back on the dune.

Further down the beach, Jane and Sandy found a meandering crawl between boardwalks 2 and 3. Valerie and Mark Doane responded and found Nest 4. The 135 eggs were moved back further on the dune. The mama took the scenic route back to the water as seen in the photo above.

Bill Greubel decided to have another look at a crawl left by the mama turtle encountered by Thursday morning walkers. A fresh set of eyes proved to do the trick as he found Nest 5. The nest was left in situ high on the dune at boardwalk 2.

Nest 2

We now have Nest 2! Walkers Judy Morr, Kathy Hanson, and Kathy Thompson called in a crawl at 6:09 this morning between boardwalks 2 & 3 on Zone 3. Valerie and Mark Doane probed the very shallow body pit and relocated 148 eggs to a safer location on the zone.
